Warranty Policy for Smith Optics New Zealand

Smith Optics NZ is committed to quality, and we have built our reputation on long-lasting, high-performing products backed by a comprehensive warranty service.

Limited Lifetime Warranty: 
All Smith sunglasses and goggles (including custom goggles) are covered for the lifetime of the product to be free from manufacturer's defects under the terms and conditions of this policy.

Standard Limited Warranty:
All Smith helmets are covered for the duration of three years from the date of purchase against any manufacturer’s defects under the terms and conditions of this policy.

Apparel and Accessories:
All Smith apparel and accessories are covered for the duration of one year from the date of purchase against any manufacturer’s defects under the terms and conditions of this policy unless otherwise stated in any mandatory applicable law.

Terms & Conditions of Warranty:
Smith has sole discretion to determine what qualifies as a manufacturer's defect, and only authentic products purchased from an authorized Smith dealer or from the Smith website are covered by our limited lifetime warranty or standard limited warranty (as applicable).
Note: Rei, Backcountry.com, Amazon, Sunglass Style, Sunglass Hut, SmartBuyGlasses, Snowinn, Ebay, and any other parallel importer are not authorised NZ dealers. If product is purchased from an unauthorised dealer, any warranty issues will have to be raised and dealt with directly with the dealer.

If a product is found defective by Smith, unless otherwise provided by the applicable law, Smith has sole discretion to determine whether to (i) replace (ii) repair or (iii) provide a refund for the product.

Refunds can only be given for products purchased via smithoptics.co.nz.​​​

​​​​​The warranty program does not include a product that is lost, stolen, dropped, sat on, stepped on, run over, shattered, chewed by your pet, or any other damage that is caused by misuse, abuse, accident or negligence. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, or the natural breakdown of colors and material through time, exposure or extensive use.

​​​​​​​​​Please be advised that the Smith warranty is for authentic Smith products including authentic Smith lenses, frames, and parts without modification of any sort. Any alteration to lenses, frame parts, or nose pads voids all warranties.

How it Works:

The warranty process normally takes 1-2 weeks. To start a warranty claim, please email warranties@sportive.co.nz with the following information:

  • Your name and return address
  • Product name and model
  • A valid proof of purchase
  • A photo of the whole product that clearly shows what it is and its general condition, including any relevant identifiers such as style, size, colourway, lens option
  • Photos that clearly show the problem with your product

If Smith decides that the product needs further assessment, the product will need to be sent along with the proof of purchase and Warranty/Returns Form to Sportive. Smith does not cover the costs of this return. If the product was purchased from a local retailer then it can be returned to the retailer to be sent to Sportive on the customer’s behalf.

If the problem is covered by our warranty policy then the product will be either repaired/replaced and returned to you to the address listed on the returns form, or you will be contacted via email to discuss the next step.

Replacement Policy

If your problem does not fall under our warranty policy, Smith may (at our discretion) be able to replace frames, lenses, and other parts for interchangeable models for a fee at our discretion.

For more information, submit a request to smith@sportive.co.nz. All fees for replacement depend on the model and parts required.

Helmet Crash Replacement Policy

Accidents happen, and you should not use a helmet that has been involved in a crash. Smith offers 30% off MSRP for crash replacement helmets.

Minimum requirements to qualify for our crash replacement discount:​​​​​​​​​​

  • Damage must be from an activity related crash or impact. ​​​
  • Crash replacement request is within two years of original purchase date with proof of purchase.
  • You are able to present your crashed helmet and details of the incident that caused the damage.
  • You are the original owner of the helmet.
  • Cases of helmet abuse are not eligible for replacement.
  • Helmet replacements are limited to 1 unit per year.

Limitations on Warranty and Damages

Except for the express warranties set forth in this policy and to the extent permitted by the applicable law, Smith makes no representations and grant no warranties, express or implied, either in fact or by operation of law, by statute or otherwise, and Smith specifically disclaims any other warranties, whether written or oral, or express or implied, including any warranty of quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular use or purpose or any warranty as to the validity of any patents or the non-infringement of any intellectual property rights of third parties. To the extent permitted by the applicable law, any warranty not expressly regulated in this policy (including any implied warranty) shall be considered as excluded. In case of breach of any warranty on this product, the consumer is limited to damages of repair of the product, replacement with an identical or equivalent style, or refund at the election of Smith. Unless otherwise provided by the applicable mandatory law, Smith is NOT liable for any other damages, such as special, incidental, or consequential damages, resulting from the use of this product.

Governing Law

This warranty is governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any disputes arising out of or in connection with this warranty shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Changes to the Warranty Policy

Smith Optics reserves the right to modify or amend this warranty policy at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting on our website.
